Tim, I just sent an email to Green Visions in hopes of reaching you, then found this blog. Hope you get this message.
Thanks for your awesome book. The Bosnia & Herzegovina Brandt guide has helped us tremendously on our trip, most importantly by filling in the holes in our understanding of the war and culture. The practical info was also indispensable. I am also writing to ask for your assistance. I hope to return to BiH and Sarajevo after our trip (we are traveling by bicycle through Europe) to do some volunteer work. Do you know
of any organizations that accept short-term--one to two months--volunteers? Unfortunately, I do not speak the language. I anticipate the time frame will be April or May. I suspect you get many such requests for help. I completely understand if you are unable to help.
My other objective in returning is to do some backpacking and pitch a story to Backpacker magazine (I was a staff editor a few years ago. Left an edit position at Runner`s World to take this yearlong bike trip). The unspoilt wilderness plus the environmental challenges of BiH is certainly of interest to the magazine. Backpacker does not run stories about international destinations frequently, but there is a chance that they`d bite at this one. My hope would be to hike with you to learn about the place
and the environment. Let me know if you would be open to that.
We are not traveling with a laptop so Internet time is infrequent (I am online in Sarajevo now. We take off tomorrow, if the rain stops).
Looking forward to hearing from you. Best, Michelle Hamilton (michellehamilton@earthlink.
