The Red Paintings - Your Tears Are Warning Signs (2004)

The Red Paintings are an experimental art rock band from Brisbane, Australia. The band consists of Trash McSweeney (Nee Jamie Barrett) on lead vocals, guitar, sequencing and samples; Ellen Stancombe (violin, tin whistle, vocals); Amanda Holmes (bass) and Andy Davis (drums). The Red Paintings have always done things a little differently. Their live shows aim and succeed at being bigger, bolder and riskier than what other local bands even contemplate. And with this new album, the boldness and the risks keep coming. The 11 songs here were all recorded live for a 4zzz session a few months ago with a stripped down version of the band. Absent are the drums, bass and all the epic rock theatrics and in their place are cello, violin and main man Trash McSweeney playing acoustic guitar and singing. Presented in this strings format, the songs are as equally impressive as in their usual explosive live incarnations. Seeing and hearing them as just bare bones reveals the strength and originality of the song writing and the talent and beauty in the playing.Their recent single Rain should have been a huge smash hit and the acoustic version here is a true highlight alongside other great darkly melodic treats like Dead Children, Stackhat, Cinema Love and The Cancer Song. The Red Paintings sing that The Revolution Is Never Coming but let's hope that their musical revolution comes soon. They're a band who deserve to have their risk rewarded.

A Girl Called Eddy - A Girl Called Eddy (2004)

Kod: Označi sve
http://rapidshare.com/files/134917498/AGCE_Vic.zip

A Girl Called Eddy is the rather unassuming name used by singer-songwriter Erin Moran. On this, her debut album, she teams up with former Pulp guitarist and acclaimed solo artist Richard Hawley to produce an album of elegance and depth. Quite simply, A Girl Called Eddy is music made by grown-ups for grown-ups. The band, who also featured on Hawley's own opus Lowedges, create sophisticated arrangements that add an almost jazz-like feel to tracks like "Tears All Over Town," "Girls Can Really Tear You Up Inside," and "Life Through the Same Lens," yet they never threaten to overpower Moran's own tender and emotive voice. She is, after all, the real star here, and she proves her abilities both as a singer and as a lyricist throughout. "You're lonely like only the broken can know," she broods on "Somebody Hurt You," and her voice conveys both sympathy and intimacy, never an easy feat on a recording. This is a surprisingly accomplished debut album--dignified, literate, and well-observed. Its mellow, relaxed pace may sound perfect for late-night listening, but A Girl Called Eddy will command your attention. --Robert Burrow

DON HENLEY(The Eagles) -
"..the best album I've heard all year is by a woman named Erin Moran from New Jersey-she goes by the name A Girl Called Eddy-and she sounds like the love child of Dusty Springfield and Burt Bacharach. "
The Independent, UK Dec.29, 07 ('Artists' Pick of the Year')

ROBERT SMITH( The Cure) - " ..melodic, melancholic, elegant - A Girl Called Eddy makes beautiful music."

BURT BACHARACH - " ..send her my compliments "

NINA PERSSON (The Cardigans) - "...my favorite artist at the moment is A Girl Called Eddy"

ERIC CARMEN ( The Raspberries) - " A Girl Called Eddy will restore your faith in music - great songwriting, and one of the flat-out coolest voices I've heard in years ."

Renee Stahl - Hopeful. Romantic (2007)

Kod: Označi sve
http://rapidshare.com/files/134959883/RSHR_Vic.zip

With her velvety voice and thoughtful songs, Renee Stahl emerges with one of the freshest-sounding folk-pop albums in recent memory. Fans of Suzanne Vega, Sarah McLachlan, and Dido need look no further than Hopeful. Romantic. Whether couching her poetic musings in lightly strummed acoustic guitars and delicately plinking bells, as on the sweetly melancholy "You Didn't Know," or shaking out the kinks with the resounding chorus and lush production of "Music 101," Stahl knows how to craft a note that carries. And her feather-light vocals also make a big impression with a minimum of fanfare, caressing cuts such as the melodic "Isn't It Easy" with grace and surprising strength. Stahl reveals her fondness for electronic beats, subtly employed, on songs like the beat-driven "Adore," presented in two versions -- the spacious "Yachts in Mix" being the more lounge-friendly of the two. With Hopeful. Romantic, Renee Stahl flaunts her earthiness, her versatility, and her natural ear for folk-pop melodies. Melancholy has rarely sounded so sweet. Lydia Vanderloo

Wendy McNeill - Such A Common Bird (2004)

Kod: Označi sve
http://rapidshare.com/files/134934991/WMc_Vic.zip

Edmontonian Wendy McNeill has released her third official album entitled Such a Common Bird. The irony of the title is incredible as McNeill is the most uncommon of those who speak in song. McNeill sounds as if she was cast aside from a Paris bordello in the mid 30s because her stage show was too depressing. In fact the song "The Sparrow" almost mirrors that statement.

"The Sparrow" is a deep lyrical yet twisted piece of art. The songs upbeat accordion based music contrasts the almost morbid lyrics perfectly. McNeill's creativity is so astonishing. Her original style of music is the type one might hear if they found themselves on an abandoned ship listening to the ghosts, in a majestic hall filled with tarnished paintings, as they sang their infinite tales of travel.
It is hard to say which songs stand out the most since they are all written so well, but "Everyday Heroes", "The Sparrow", and "Such a Common Bird" probably stand out the most. "Everyday Heroes" is an especially inspiring song which may send chills up more than a few people's spines.

McNeill is steadily gaining the attention such a unique artist deserves she has a bunch of upcoming shows around Alberta and has been featured in many of the local magazines and papers. She is well known for her extravagant live performances; Such a Common Bird could not have come at a better time. It is a very solid album which should have the critics in awe.

A year without multiple Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy releases is a let-down, but good news abounds as its looking like 2008 might be the year that Will Oldham can finally wrest the title of “number one artist that will always be referred to as prolific” from Ryan Adams.

Following the out of the blue, and excellent Lie Down in the Light, Domino Records has announced a live album due out October 20, titled Is It The Sea? The decidedly nautically themed LP culls songs from spring 2006 shows in Scotland, Ireland and Newcastle and features a tracklisting that pulls songs from across his long and varied discography. I’m happy to see “New Partner” again, even if it is at least the third time he’s re-released it since Viva Last Blues.

Emiliana Torrini - Me And Armini (09/2008)

Following on from her critically acclaimed sets 'Love In The Time Of Science' and her first for Rough Trade 'Fisherman's Woman', the forthcoming 'Me And Armini' (released 8th September) sees her working once again with her long time producer / collaborator Dan Carey resulting in what we feel is destined to be one of the albums of 2008.

'Me And Armini' is a hugely ambitious and aspirational pop record with Emiliana’s soaring voice centre stage, bolstered by a rich gamut of musical styles. From the summery skank of the title track and first single (released August 18th), the yearning, spine-tingling 'Big Jumps' (released 13th October), and the surging, breathless ‘Jungle Drum’ due for early 2009, 'Me And Armini' is a truly fantastic album. The pedigree paring of Torrini's song writing and Carey's sonic alchemy (currently being put to work on the new Franz Ferdinand and recent Hot Chip records) has previously combined to world-beating effect when they co-wrote / produced 'Slow' for Kylie as well as contributing 'Golum's Song' to the multi platinum sound track to Peter Jackson's The Lord Of The Rings.

Buddy Guy - Skin Deep (2008)

Kod: Označi sve
http://rapidshare.com/files/135221879/BGSD_Vic.zip

It's hard to say that Buddy Guy's career was revived by his appearance in the Rolling Stones' Shine a Light, but his mesmerizing duet on Muddy Waters' "Champagne and Reefer" in that Martin Scorsese concert film was a bracing, welcome reminder of just how good Guy is, especially for listeners who may have let their attention wander in the years since Damn Right, I've Got the Blues. What made Guy so riveting was his coiled aggression: in stark contrast to the deferential Jack White, he came to cut the Stones down and he did so mercilessly, which made it the musical highlight of a show with plenty of great moments. That wildness has kept Buddy Guy unpredictable well into his senior citizenship, and it surfaces on Skin Deep, only perhaps not quite as often as it should. Touted as his first album of original material, Skin Deep does work as an effective showcase for Buddy's most original voice: his wild, gnarly guitar. The production may be crisp and clean but Buddy refuses to play polite, messing up the pristine surfaces with big, nasty, ugly smears of guitar. Even when the record gleams too brightly -- as it does just a little bit too often -- Guy sounds like he's trying to tear things apart from the inside, which lends vigor and energy to numbers that are performed with just a shade too much preciseness. Thankfully, not all of Skin Deep is so clean, as the record opens up with a pair of dynamite collaborations with Robert Randolph -- the stripped-down, swampy Delta blues "Out in the Woods" and the muscular "That's My Home." Guy also gets in a couple of good numbers with Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks -- there's also a duet with Eric Clapton on "Every Time I Sing the Blues," which slides into a too-comfortable slow groove -- and these are the moments when Skin Deep really clicks, as the songs spark and the band truly cooks. Elsewhere, the music slips toward the conventional, but at least it sounds like Guy is trying to reel it back in with that monstrous guitar, which can still sound wondrous. It's kind of fun to hear the accidental tension between Guy's guitar and the slick surfaces, but when he's paired with a band or production that matches his grit, Skin Deep is so good that it's hard not to wish the whole record sounded just like that. DEDE PRIEST grew up in Dallas, Texas, raised by her hard-working, young mother, who taught her how to live and dream in a world where little black girls are all too often shaped by discouraging circumstances. With her debut album "Candy Moon" Dede proves to be a powerful and soulful singer. An album that consists of an excellent mixture of Blues and (Nu-)Soul, with hints of Gospel and Jazz. The recordings took place in Holland with help of musicians that paid their dues in renowned European bands, and features former The Strikes rhythm section Jody van Ooijen and Roelof Klijn, Richard van Bergen on guitar (J.W. Roy, Sunset Travellers, Shiner Twins) and the talented Govert van der Kolm on keys. Dede Priest has already been compared to great vocalists like Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Billie Holiday and Erykah Badu. With "Candy Moon" she will raise some serious dust in the European Blues and Nu-Soul scene of today.

We have a new record coming for release in mid-October. This particular project was recorded in the middle of our 50 date tour during the only break we had. That week found us in Gijon, Spain on the Northern coast. We chose to record there at an analog studio by the name of Circo Perotti which is outfitted with a lovely selection of vintage microphones and loads of ancient outboard treasures to play with. After wrangling with all the ghosts, goblins and gremlins that inhabit gear and studios of this nature, the record was completed in five days... which is one more day than we spent the last one, so it may seem a little over produced to some!

It is called, "Dirt Don't Hurt" and if you listen carefully, you may just be able to hear the mud on our shoes.

Anyways, it's going to be released on our new U.S. label, Transdreamer for North America and on Damaged Goods for U.K. and Europe. And yes, there will absolutely be vinyl.

Woven Hand - Ten Stones (09/2008)

"A little bit about the album:
Woven Hand's fourth full-length release, TEN STONES, is produced by Edwards and Daniel Smith (Danielson), engineered by Smith and Emil Nikolaisen (Serena Maneesh), and features the formidable talents of Peter Van Laerhoven (guitar), former 16 Horsepower bandmate Pascal Humbert (bass), Garrison (drums), Nikolaisen (guitar), and Danielson’s Elin K. Smith (vocals).

Edwards’ powerful and authoritative musicianship, coupled with lyrics that hit the mark with unflagging consistency, results in compelling music that is brooding, dark, and yet maintains a tight grip on hope itself." (soundsfamilyre)

"Wovenhand is a force to be reckoned with, and this has never been more evident than in their upcoming release, TEN STONES. Music that pulls you in like undertow on the North Atlantic and then catapults you into an expanse full of danger and mystery, TEN STONES is remarkable in its breadth, humanity, and power. Emotions are not merely juxtaposed, they are woven together--confusion and hope are intertwined, joy and terror run in and through each other, urgency and peace are experienced simultaneously. Wovenhand’s powerful and authoritative musicianship, coupled with lyrics that hit the mark with unflagging consistency, results in music that is driving, potent, and excruciatingly alive." Jenny Scheinman - 12 Songs (2005)

Kod: Označi sve
http://rapidshare.com/files/135504215/JS12S_Vic.zip

Guitarist Bill Frisell joins violinist Jenny Scheinman on her fourth CD as a leader. 12 Songs features Frisell's unique guitar sound and Jenny's mysterioso fiddling as they weave jazz, world music and Americana into rich tapestries of sound. Scheinman, who has recorded with Norah Jones and tours with Bill Frisell's band, is joined by cornetist Ron Miles and a cast of highly acclaimed New York musicians on a sepia-toned journey, equal parts old-world and contemporary.

"...It maintains an aura of wistful lyricism and dreamy self-reflection, not unlike the music of (Norah) Jones. But the songs are structurally diverse, ranging from the gently twangy "Song of the Open Road" to the circus march "Moe Hawk" to the sepia-tinged border postcard "Satellite." More crucially, the album's septet consists of musicians who, like Ms. Scheinman, playfully apply jazz techniques to many varieties of folk music."
-Nate Chinen, New York Times, September 9, 2005

"4 stars. Gentle yet provocative, the violinist's instrumental miniatures are insightful and inclusive: Cowpoke ballads, Sonny Rollins bop, Irish airs and gypsy laments all waft by. Scheinman's skill is the nuanced way in which they're dispensed. She's become a master of insinuation."

With a backcatalogue that includes two darkly rollicking roots records produced by Morphine's Billy Conway, and the 2006 release Strange Conversation, a vibrant collection of Americana songs inspired by the work of famous poets ("a remarkable album... as seamless and brave as it is brilliantly creative" - Irish Times), Kris Delmhorst has parlayed a decade of successful cross-country and trans-Atlantic touring into one of the most distinct voices in American music. With this new album she has trained that voice on a series of gracefully open lyrics and figures that transcend genre, ranging into the borderlands between indie-rock and folk; that nameless territory inhabited by such hard-to-classify artists as Laura Veirs, Feist, Iron & Wine, and Juana Molina.

Australia's All India Radio mix a little Portishead with a dash of Boards Of Canada & Cinematic Orchestra to create the breathtaking soundscapes on their sparkling new album ‘Fall.’

Following the critically acclaimed album Echo Other and a successful US tour, All India Radio release their much anticipated fifth studio album ‘Fall.’ The new album represents the next step in the band’s evolution with the addition of singer/co-writer Leona Prue to the lineup. While the music draws on the lush atmospheric qualities of previous albums, Leona’s thoroughly entrancing voice adds a new focus, creating a warm and expansive landscape of music, melody and voice.

Guests include Graham Lee (from legendary Aussie band The Triffids and classic KLF albums Chill Out and The White Room) who plays some stunningly atmospheric pedal steel guitar and Australian experimental cellist Emily Williams.Key tracks include the string-drenched lushness of Persist and Fall, the atmospheric ambience of Morning Drops and the intense dark pop of Endless Night.

Kod: Označi sve

New York outfit O’Death’s third LP, Broken Hymns, Limbs and Skin, feels like a giddy junkyard hoedown, from the panicked fiddle screeches of opener “Low Tide” to the celebratory gallop of closer “Lean-To.” At times it sounds morose or contemplative, but underneath the melancholy is a gospel fervor—bashed from paint buckets, banjos, guitars and anything else in kicking distance—that defines their sound. Since 2007’s buzzed-about Head Home, the quintet, which contains vocalist/guitarist Greg Jamie, vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Gabe Darling, fiddle player Bob Pycior, bassist Newman and drummer David Rogers-Berry, has evolved the possessed americana-meets-gypsy-punk of recent years into a more urgent, unrelenting celebration of life, death and everything in between....

Emily Wells - The Symphonies: Dreams Memories and Parties (2008)

Kod: Označi sve
http://rapidshare.com/files/135800611/EWTS_Vic.zip

Emily Wells in her dreams and waking life planned a party where her memories and the present could dance together. Emily Wells wrote, performed, recorded, and produced a series of fantastically modern symphonies for the festivities. The result is “The Symphonies: Dreams Memories & Parties”, is a symphonic folk electric eclectic fantasy set with sonics and intelligent, emotive lyrics. The record makes the listener turn up the volume and press repeat, while the live show draws the audience in closer to the stage to stare in wonder at the pixie-punk of a girl, dressed in a crinoline, adorned with tiny white lights, who creates the sounds of an orchestra with one lone violin.
Emily Wells is an anomaly among musicians most of whom spend their careers striving for a major label deal. Before she was old enough to vote, a major label was courting Wells, two music-publishing companies were competing for the rights to her songs and she was recording with award winning producers. By the time she was legally buying her first drink, however, Emily had chosen a different path. With true indie ethos, she moved from New York, leaving in her wake a lucrative deal from a major label, the renowned producers, recording studios, and a manager. During that period of her life, Emily had been offered everything that most musicians want. Everything except what she, as an artist, needed most: creative control.

Attaining the ever-elusive artist’s dream of creative control, as Wells would soon learn, comes only at a price. Wells’ cost was the thousands of miles logged, traipsing across country, playing in and outside of bars, pubs, and juke joints. She traveled in a tiny car, dragging along guitars, a tiny bass, a giant old Linn 9000 drum machine, and a four track. When flush, Emily would spend the occasional night in a seedy motel room where she would tirelessly record with her archaic four-track and dirty old instruments. Emily didn’t look back to her swank days as a would-be priority artist on a major label and regret any of her choices; she saw each obstacle in her path as a challenge.

Eventually landing in Los Angeles, Wells finally learned through recording and performing, how to have the creative control she craved. Slowly building her own studio, she taught herself how to record and produce. This is the studio in which she would create, record, mix, and produce “The Symphonies: Dreams Memories & Parties” her latest release. To get the sound of a full orchestra, Emily didn’t take the easy way out and simply loop the layers of violins; instead, she played up to 21 separate tracks of violin on each symphony, often using an octave pedal to create the tones of an underwater cello or viola. In addition to the strings, there is a plethora of other sounds, electronic and organic alike. Two years ago, Wells found a bassist, Joey Reina, and a drummer, Sam Halterman, who add a richness to both the live show and the recordings. Their contributions to “The Symphonies” give the compositions more depth as well as a little junk in the trunk.

Prior to “The Symphonies”, Emily released “Beautiful Sleepyhead and the Laughing Yaks” to an ever widening audience and much critical acclaim. NPR featured the album on “All Songs Considered Open Mic” and Reviewer Magazine raved, “…Sleepyhead…has some of the best, most well written music and gorgeous female vocals ever.” iTunes also featured Wells as an Indie Spotlight Artist.

press quotes
Flavorpill:
Years in the making with its soaring arrangements and heartbreaking harmonies are well worth the wait.

KCRW’s Top Tune: July 8th
“Emily Wells is a truly independent artist who has shunned publishers and labels to retain her creative freedom. She's so lo-fi that instead of looping layers of violin, she decided to record 21 separate tracks. Here's Today's Top Tune, it's "Symphony 6: Fair Thee Well and Requiem Mix"”

Snobs Music:
“Emily Wells is a mutli-talented LA-based musician. I say "musician" because "singer" and/or "songwriter" would seem to belittle her talents. Her new album, The Symphonies: Dreams Memories & Parties, is a collection of beautiful, lush songs. Each one is chock full of more violins than I can count. Wells uses those strings to create rolling sonic textures that remind the listener of peak My Bloody Valentine (minus the mind blowing reverb).”

There's a suitcase on the cover, and that's a good tipoff to the sound of this one -- a globe's worth of funky grooves -- all courtesy of maestro Shawn Lee! The album really takes off from Lee's previous projects -- and the tunes here borrow heavily from a world of different music -- bits of Afro Funk, Eastern exotica, Mediterranean magic, and more -- all wrapped around the kind of funk-heavy rhythms we've come to love in Shawn's Ping Pong Orchestra projects for Ubiquity! Like the previous efforts, this one's got a tightly focused, no-nonsense quality -- one that almost reminds us of the best 70s sound library funk recordings -- but touched slightly with the range of different cultural influences promised in the title.

The Sea and Cake - Car Alarm (10/2008)

Kod: Označi sve
http://rapidshare.com/files/136663848/TSCCA_Vic.zip

The exciting sound of a well-oiled band. Car Alarm is The Sea and Cake’s eighth full-length record. It is bracing, like the surge of wasabe on sweet sushi, like the slap of cool water on a diving body, like the head-rush of a rollercoaster just leaving summit. Bracing music is most often encountered in concert. Only the heaviest hitters have translated the live thrill into the recording studio. Think of the great working bands, the Charles Mingus Quintet, the John Coltrane Quartet, the Meters or the Minutemen. For them, there was no gaping chasm between the studio and the road; the studio was just another stop, a gig, a continuous part of the flow of playing and working and creating together.

Car Alarm is the sound of a well-oiled band. Heavy hitters. Listen to the intricate intertwining strings of Sam Prekop and Archer Prewitt and you’ll hear the frontline of a working unit that has moved seamlessly from the stage to the studio and back. Historically, The Sea and Cake stayed the course since forming in Chicago in 1993, but over the last couple of years they have pulled in even tighter, recording hot and fast on the heels of a busy performance schedule without breaking for other projects. The sense of trust and communication that is key to a working band – particularly in the rhythm section, where drummer John McEntire and bassist Eric Claridge create their intimate alchemy – is cultivated over the long haul, by means of an epoxy bond and preternatural antennae. Stop working together, and those connections go dormant, hibernate; keep on trucking, and they deepen and get sharper, allowing the band to reach for new things, experiment freely, evolve and develop and grow. The ground doesn’t have to be prepared; the canvas is already primed, ready for the first brushstroke.

The aim with Car Alarm was to follow up quickly on its precursor, the somewhat stripped down Everybody. Prekop says the band wanted to make a record that felt like they had never stopped playing, a continuously limbered up ensemble that parlayed its last tour into new material. They started working on it right after an Australian tour in March, and finished it after a miraculous three-month gestation. If the usual process in pop music is to make a record and then breathe life into it on the road, this flips that presumption on its head, starting with a vital, pulsing set-list on disc; what heights they’ll take the new songs to in concert only remains to be seen.

Where in the past, The Sea and Cake has disbursed between records to allow each member their individual pursuits – Prekop and Prewitt’s artwork and solo projects, McEntire’s production at his SOMA Studio and work with Tortoise, Claridge’s alternate identity as a painter – in this case they didn’t disband, but dove straight into Car Alarm. The quickness reflects a personal urgency, too, given the imminent delivery of Prekop’s firstborn. Thoughts of fatherhood may lend a kind of optimistic air to the record. It has the breezy, open, crisp sound that The Sea and Cake have spent 15 years crafting, but Car Alarm also has a palpable edge. That’s the edge of people who know each other well enough to push a bit harder, who aren’t worried about ruffling each other’s feathers or trying something different, difficult, intuitive, trusting. Something bracing. Here ‘tis. -- John Corbett

Tamas Wells - Two Years in April (2008)

Kod: Označi sve
http://rapidshare.com/files/136709168/TW2Y_Vic.zip

'Two Years in April' is the new album from Burma based artist Tamas Wells. And it has been a remarkable two years.

After a wave of excitement in Japan about Wells' 2006 album 'A Plea en Vendredi', he signed deals with renowned Tokyo based label Inpartmaint and also with China based label Pocket Records (who also release Australian band Dirty Three). The result of these deals was remarkable with 'A Plea en Vendredi' selling thousands of copies, reaching Number 16 on Japan's HMV Shibuya international chart and culminating in a sell out tour of four Japanese cities in late 2007.

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Tamas Wells moved to the city of Yangon in Burma in early 2006 and with just a guitar, a traditional Burmese banjo and the occasional subtle use of strings, began recording songs for a new album. Recorded at home in Yangon between power cuts, monsoon rains and the shouts of street salesmen ‘Two Years in April’ combines Wells’ sublime sense of melody with a beautifully fragile instrumentation and production.

Caroline Herring - Lantana (2008)

Kod: Označi sve
http://rapidshare.com/files/135720249/CHL_Vic.zip

Caroline Herring confidently returns to the forefront of the American roots music scene with her new album Lantana. The Mississippi-born, Atlanta-based singer/songwriter took the producing helm for the first time on the new record, co-producing with long-time collaborator Rich Brotherton (Robert Earl Keen).

Intimate, powerful and honest, Lantana is a masterpiece of understated intensity and in many ways an artistic re-birth for Herring. After making a name for herself in Mississippi as band member and co-founder of the now renowned Thacker Mountain Radio music series, Herring moved to Austin, TX. Herring quickly took the town by storm, releasing the critically acclaimed debut album, Twilight. She won Best New Artist at both the 2002 SXSW Austin Music Awards and also from the Austin American Statesman. Herring soon after released an equally impressive follow-up, Wellspring.

In many ways Lantana is Herring's re-imaging of the Gothic South, with a rich alto voice that soothes the listener even as she addresses difficult subjects. Herring has a journalist's eye for detail, a poet's sense of scale and language, and a life-long Southerner's understanding of the issues that shape the culture
below the Mason Dixon line. There is no artifice on Lantana. It's an album full of delights, lyrically and musically. And just like Caroline Herring, her new album is the real thing.

At this moment, ad execs are choosing the next Apple commercial hit song, Ableton DJs are chopping up downloaded MP3s beyond recognition and Tr Plus Tr is offering an antidote. This album is about the heart of song writing; structure, sounds, raw precision and a certain Sturm and Drang. Between Dehghani's ears, Burt Bacharach does battle with M83 and the winner will face off against the Cure. Don't believe us? Let's rumble.
