Heart - The Road Home (1995)

The Road Home is a live album released in 1995 by the successful rock/pop duo Heart. It chronicles a club performance in the “unplugged” style given in their home city of Seattle. It’s always been quite rare to see AC/DC - unless you go to their concerts. Television appearances, and later music videos, have always been a necessary evil to this band of nononsense rockers. Consequently, only their early years were documented on television - mostly in Australia and Europe - and when the time came to switch to promotional video clips, the band always made their own and gave them the appearance of a live show. But they’ve also never wasted an opportunity to make a big statement with their clips. From singer Bon Scott dressing like a school girl (to Angus Young’s school boy) and smoking(!) on their first major television appearance, to the giant rocking spectacle of the “Big Gun” video (with guest appearance by Arnold Schwarzenegger), AC/DC has always been larger than life and their timeless brand of rock and roll has been as big on screen as it has off. Now for the first time Epic Records is proud to announce the first ever compilation of AC/DC videos from all parts of their storied career. Starting in 1975 on Australian TV’s Countdown show through the Spanish TV clips filmed just ten days before Bon Scott’s death - the first great era of the band is chronicled on Disc One. Disc Two starts with the promo videos for Back In Black (several never before available) and sees many of the 80’s and 90’s clips on DVD for the first time. This is truly a monumental collection of clips from one of the world’s greatest bands - all completely remastered for DVD with the same care as the Epic CD remasters and the Live At Donington DVD.

Kiss - Rock The Nation Live

The rock band Kiss–four guys in full face makeup, black spandex, and six-inch platform shoes–achieve a kind of sublime ridiculousness that other rock bands can only dream of. Kiss–Rock the Nation Live! mixes lavish concert footage with brief but entertaining backstage clips of the band members putting on their makeup, cavorting with their fans, and going bowling. Though only two of the founding members remain–Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons–Kiss is exactly the same as ever: The most shamelessly pandering band in the history of rock, a heavy metal/pop confection marketed as ruthlessly as any boy-band. All the trademarks–fire-breathing, blood-spitting, pyrotechnics, etc.–are presented with impressive zest, particularly since Stanley and Simmons are in their fifties (one of the advantages of full face makeup is that your audience can’t see how old you are). The topics of their lyrics are sex, partying, and sex–which, nowadays, is kind of refreshing. Kiss eschews the narcissistic morbidity that marks so much contemporary hard rock; this band will never whine about how hard life is or how depressed they are. The way they aggressively woo their fans has contributed to their success at least as much as their music. By the end of the show, the riffs and exhortations to “Let me hear you!” start to blur, but the audience enthusiasm never wanes–and the camera spends a lot of time ogling big-breasted young women in “Kiss Army” t-shirts (and thongs). The dvd features several songs in “Kiss Powervision”, which allows you to focus on your favorite band member (a bit of technology developed, appropriately enough, for porn dvds). –Bret Fetzer

On November 26, 1968, London's illustrious Royal Albert Hall was jammed to its gilded rafters with rock fans ready for the final concert of what many still consider the greatest band that ever played.
