Ransom - Soundtrack (By James Horner & Billy Corgan) (1996)



Ransom is a 1996 Golden Globe nominated thriller film, starring Mel Gibson, Rene Russo, and Gary Sinise and directed by Ron Howard. The movie was nominated Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama for Mel Gibson, and was the 5th highest grossing movie of 1996 in the United States.

The original idea for the story was from an episode of "The United States Steel Hour" named "Fearful Decision" that aired in 1954. It was then a remake of the feature length film of the same name (1956) written by Richard Maibaum and Cyril Hume starring Glenn Ford, Donna Reed and Leslie Nielsen. The film also was influenced by King's Ransom, a police procedural novel by Ed McBain which was, in turn, the basis for Akira Kurosawa's 1963 film High and Low.

Sorcerer - Soundtrack (By Tangerine Dream) (1977)



Sorcerer is a 1977 film, produced and directed by William Friedkin, starring Roy Scheider, Bruno Cremer, Francisco Rabal and Amidou. It is a remake of the 1953 French film Le Salaire de la Peur (Wages of Fear).

Sorcerer followed Friedkin's highly successful The French Connection and The Exorcist, but was a major commercial failure. The budget was estimated at over $22 million, a substantial sum at the time. With a gross of $12 million,[citation needed] the film did not recoup its costs. The film was co-produced by Universal Pictures and Paramount Pictures, with Universal handling U.S. distribution and Paramount handling the international release.

Sorcerer is also notable for its electronic score by Tangerine Dream, which was their first Hollywood film soundtrack, and led to them becoming popular soundtrack composers in the 80s.

Plot
The film tells the tale of four international criminals on the run from the law. In desperation, they flee to a remote village in the Dominican Republic whose economy is heavily dependent on the local oil company. An oil well over 200 miles away has caught fire, and can only be extinguished with explosives. The criminals are given a chance to earn money, and win local citizenship, by driving trucks carrying unstable dynamite (because it was improperly stored, it is now "sweating" nitroglycerin, and may detonate if subjected to shock or vibration) to the oil well. On the way, they meet with various hazards that block their journey, including a decrepit rope-suspension bridge swinging violently in a huge storm over a flood-swollen river, a massive tree lying across the road, and desperate rebels.

Transsiberia - Soundtrack (By Tangerine Dream) (1998)



In summer 1997 Edgar and Jerome Froese started for a "strange musical and geographical trip" in composing the score for Transsiberia, an experimental black-and-white film about a journey on the famous Transsiberian Railway from Moscow to Vladivostok. It is unknown whether this film was every released officially.

The composition The Golden Horn is strongly reminiscent to the track Turning Off The Wheel from Optical Race back in 1988. The soundtrack album was released on CD by TD's own label TDI in June 1998 and re-released one year later with a different cover artwork.

In January 2007 this release became available as MP3 download at the Tangerine Dream Download Shop. While the compositions had been credited to both Edgar Froese and Jerome Froese in the original CD booklet, all tracks are listed as compositions by Edgar Froese only on the downloadable artwork.

Oasis - Soundtrack (By Tangerine Dream) (1997)



Notes
1997 saw the release of Oasis, the follow-up of Canyon Dreams, TD's first commercial video featuring the scenery of the Grand Canyon that had been released ten years ago. Also Oasis shows great views of the landscapes of the US south-west, most of them in time-lapse photography, combined with TD's music which sounds mostly rhythmic and sequencer-driven. As Canyon Dreams, this video was a result of a cooperation between TD and the US Camera One company. The pictures of an overwhelming nature were taken by Gray Warriner, who had already been director of Canyon Dreams, and by Ned Sickels in the most famous National Parks in the deserts of Arizona, New Mexico and Utah, among them Zion National Park, Canyon de Chelly, Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, Petrified Forest, Cliff Dwellings and Cedar Breaks. The video however seems to be a result of a reworked project: The video cover mentions the year 1991 and a playing time of 1 hour, but in fact, Edgar Froese and Jerome Froese had put last hand to this project in studio in 1996, and an additional sticker on the cover tells the true running time of 45 minutes. The band's name is printed not onto the cover but only on a shiny silver star-shaped sticker on the cardboard sleeve – but this all does not affect the result of this great work.

The Oasis video won two awards in the USA: the "Telly" award 1997 for "Best Music & Video" and the "Gold Award" 1997 for the "Best Musical Video" in the category "Jazz/Experimental" at the Houston International Film Festival. Thus, only a few months after the video release, it already seemed that Oasis was a quiet bigger success than Canyon Dreams.

The audio soundtrack album of Oasis was released some months later, too.

America's Sweethearts is a 2001 romantic comedy film, directed by Joe Roth, starring Julia Roberts, Billy Crystal, John Cusack, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The film also stars Hank Azaria, Stanley Tucci, Seth Green, Alan Arkin, and Christopher Walken, and features a cameo appearance by Larry King as himself. It was written by Crystal and Peter Tolan.

Plot

Lee Phillips (Crystal) is a movie publicist with a major problem. His studio's latest movie stars "America's Sweethearts", Gwen Harrison (Zeta-Jones) and Eddie Thomas (Cusack). However, the couple have recently split, with Gwen running off with a Spanish actor, Hector (Azaria). Not only that, but their latest film is being held hostage by the eccentric director, Hal Weidmann (Walken), who demands that the film first be shown at a press junket. Needing to keep up the illusion that Gwen and Eddie are still a couple, Lee needs to somehow work his magic to get them back together long enough until the press junket for the movie. However, complicating matters, is the fact that Eddie is starting to fall for Gwen's personal assistant, Kiki (Roberts) - who happens to also be Gwen's sister. Kiki had been overweight in the past but has recently lost a lot of weight and is becoming independent and self-confident. When the movie is finally shown at the press junket, the actors and others involved with film, and the press, discover that director Hal Weidmann has created a film unlike anything that anyone else who'd been involved in the movie's production intended or expected, including footage filmed when individuals thought they were talking privately with one another such as when Gwen was talking about Hector's small penis, when Hector denies it and Eddie agrees that they can't get back together and says he loves Kiki.
