This innovative CD reminds us that Europe in the 1700s was intensely curious about Turkish culture, once hostilities between the West and the Ottoman Empire had finally ceased. Perhaps the most famous example of Turkish music influencing European classical music comes in the finale to Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. However, by that time, Turkish effects were already passé. A better example is offered by Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio. The overture to that opera contains riotous percussion punctuations typical of Turkish janissary bands. To hear it played by Concerto Köln, a classical original instruments ensemble, and Sarband, a German-based group specializing in traditional Turkish music, is a joyously noisy treat.

The Cantigas de Santa María by Alfonso X the Wise constitute one of the greatest contributions to the cultural world of the thirteenth century and one of the greatest monuments of Medieval music. Alla Francesca's performance of 17 cantigas has its high and low points. On the one hand are the cantigas performed with voices and instruments, 11 in total, and on the other, those performed instrumentally. Sensibly, the performance avoids reminders of Moslem music, often employed by other groups, and which border on provocation in a repertory devoted to the Virgin. Alla Francesca's Cantigas sound like Medieval monody rooted in the deepest European tradition, which is what they are.

This stunner of an opera involves the proud sultan Bajazet (bass) and his battle with his bloodthirsty rival-tyrant Tamerlane (counter-tenor). More than 50 operas were composed on the subject. Here Vivaldi has composed all the recitatives and marvelous arias for the dignified, fine characters and used arias by other composers--Hasse, Giacomelli, Carlo Broschi--for Tamerlano and the nasties. The music is energetic and virtuosic throughout. Fabio Biondi leads Europa Galante and soloists with urgent, theatrical precision, making the story come to life. The singing could not be better: Ildebrando d'Arcangelo is a remarkably sympathetic Bajazet, singing with fluency and power; David Daniels amazes as Tamerlano; Marijana Mijanovic sings the role of Asteria (Bajazet's daughter) with love and precision; and Viveca Genaux dazzles with her perfect coloratura as Irene. This is a treasure trove of singing, and a bonus DVD allows us to see/hear the performers in rehearsal. Highly recommended.

For thousands of years, the biblical Psalter has been the liturgical “heart” of the three main book religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The Psalms announce the word of God and, simultaneously, contain the full range of human experience.

Pozdrav shoepac. Zaista sam oduševljen tvojim radom na ovom forumu i postavljanju muzike, želim da nastaviš postavljati dobre pjesme ali isto tako i instrumentalnu muziku.

Što se tiče ovoga "Ensemble Constantinople (Li Tans Nouveaus) imao sam priliku jednom slušati taj ansambl i zaista imaju neprocjenjivu instrumentalnu glazbu. Pokušavam skinuti mp3, međutim nalazim samo linkove sa tekstom.
Ako je moguće volio bih da postaviš link sa muzikom.
